Embrace fresh coastal breezes and captivating sunsets
Hervey Bay
Australia’s most liveable city
A scenic two hour drive from the Sunshine Coast, a three and a half hour drive north of Brisbane, with its own domestic airport, Hervey Bay has become one of Queensland’s most desirable locations. Voted the world’s best climate!
Hervey Bay is the gateway to the world heritage listed “K’gari” Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island known for its magnificent rainforest, lakes, dingoes, 75 Mile Beach and must-see shipwreck, fishing, four wheel driving and camping for the adventurous.
K’gari Fraser Island
Fraser Island is the world’s largest sand island and a natural wonderland. It was designated a World Heritage Site in 1992 to recognise the island’s internationally significant natural features, which include evolving beach, lake, soil, and forest systems, the scope and age of which are outstanding examples of ongoing geological and biological processes, and unique landscapes that are examples of exceptional natural occurrences.
Plant groups ranging from coastal grass to mangrove forests and swamps to subtropical rainforest grow on seemingly infertile sands.
Big Woody Island
Big Woody Island, a World Heritage site, is located between Fraser Island and Hervey Bay, within a cluster of smaller islands in the Great Sandy Straight. Big Woody Island, which is often overlooked, has a rich cultural heritage, particularly in regard to the area’s marine history, as well as distinctive forest, mangrove, and beach areas.
Visiting Big Woody Island actually means immersing yourself in all of the island’s natural marvels. There are great maritime attractions as well as a peaceful atmosphere to enjoy. Aside from its historical significance, the island’s untamed landscape is a major allure. The island, in particular, has a diverse bird population. There are also unspoiled forests, mangroves, and sandy beaches.
Urangan Boat Harbour
The Urangan Boat Harbour in Hervey Bay serves as a hub for all marine tours departing from the area, as well as some of the best holiday accommodation in the vicinity. Since the beginning of the Hervey Bay whale watching business, the facility has been constantly updated
. There were no marinas in the beginning, thus boats were moored to pile moorings. With boat ramps, hard stand facilities, restaurants, and seafront cafes, the entire district will be transformed into a tourist magnet in its own right.
Urangan Beach
Urangan beach (1526) stretches from the hills to the Urangan Boat Harbour, where it has developed up over 100 metres against the breakwater. It is bounded to the north by a shady coastal park and to the south by a big car park serving the boat dock.
The beach is normally calm, with tidal flats reaching out to the deep straight channels and their large tidal sandbars. If you’re looking for somewhere to dine and drink, there are cafes and The Boat Club nearby. Unless it’s a really windy day, the sides are rolled up, allowing you to enjoy the views of the boats coming and leaving from the marina and beyond to Fraser Island.
